S-200 / 2000 / ATEN / Zapp driver Having the S-200 turned on, get the Synertek serial cable (Synertek data cable) and connect it to the mobile telephone Connect the serial cable to USB - RS232 (serial) converter connect the serial end to Synertek Data Cable: connect the USB - RS232 (serial) converter to USB port # Handset setup Press Menu > Press 6 key > Press 2 key Select Computer Speed for S-200 Handset - 230400 using up/down arrows # USB DRIVER INSTALLATION USB to RS232 converter (adapter) requires a driver installation. This driver should have been provided by the converter's vendor. Connect the USB end of the converter to USB port of your computer. you shall see this message (found new hardware / USB Device) Followed by New Hardware Wizard window Click Next select Search for a suitable driver for my device Click next Click Specify a location Click Next Click Browse to the location where your USB driver is located (this driver should be provided with the USB - SERIAL convertor) You shall see the next window: click next click Finish # Modem installation note: the S-200 is equipped with a built-in modem, which means you don't need to buy a modem if you want to connect to Internet using a dial-up connection. For this reason, the PC/laptop needs to be set-up in a similar scenario as an external modem set-up. This paragraph will guide you through the steps you need to follow in order to get this modem installed. Make sure you have the proper privilege on your computer running Windows2000 to start the following operation. After you closed all your running applications (recommended), click the Windows Start button and go to Control Panel. Double click "Phone and Modem Options" icon within the Control Panel press "Modems" tab; Press Add button; Click the check box named "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list"; Click Next (you will see "Add/Remove Hardware Wizard" window) Click on "Have Disk" button Browse to the location where your Zapp CDMA Synertek S-200 modem driver is located (we recommend to keep the zapp driver in a special folder like c:\drivers\zapp_drivers) Select Zapp CDMA Handset (With USB 230k serial conv) model click next Select the proper communication port to which your CDMA device is connected. (USB driver should have previously installed a virtual COM; i.e. COM5). In order to use USB port you should select this new installed COM. Click Next; Windows will install your modem. finally you shall see a confirmation message: "Your modem has been set up successfully." Click Finish As result, the standard modem we have just installed shows up in the modems list on Phone and Modem Options tab. On Phone and Modem Options tab, go to Modems tab, and click on Properties button Zapp CDMA Handset (with USB serial conv) Window will open up as a result. On General tab, Maximum Port Speed field, choose 230400. Click OK (two times) You have successfully installed a new modem on your PC/laptop connected to the S-200 by using a serial cable on COM1. The next step in the process of getting a connection to Internet is to establish a dial-up connection. Go to next paragraph. # Establish a dial-up connection Click Start. Move Mouse on Settings and then click on Network and Dial-up Connections As result, Network and Dial-up Connections window will show up. Double-Click on Make New Connection As result, Network Connection Wizard window will show-up. Click Next. Select Dial-up to private network Click Next Select the modem device: Modem - Zapp CDMA Handset (With USB 230k serial conv) Click Next The phone number to dial is: #777 Note: Uncheck “Use dialing rules” Click Next Select an option (i.e. For all users) Click Next Type a name for the connection (i.e. Zapp ) Click Finish The User name field will be automatically filled in (for the time being the username is not important). The Password field may be left blank Click Dial. As result the dialing window will show up. Wait until the connection is established. This may take a few seconds. After the connection is established, the window will disappear and a new icon will be displayed in the right side of your Windows 2000 task bar. You have now successfully connected to Internet world. You need to open your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.), go to Open Page field and type any WWW address you want to reach.
